About Chiropractic

The first thing that you should know about chiropractic is that your spine should be maintained throughout your life from birth.  Most people don’t know that and most people certainly do not do that.  The reason why getting adjusted is so important is because just like brushing your teeth everyday ensures good dental hygiene, adjusting your spine ensures good neurological hygiene.  You have things, like gravity, that pull down on you every moment of every day: accidents, physical traumas, and then daily activities that make the bones in your spine shift out of their normal position causing pressure on the nerves that exit your spine.  Pressure on the nerves that exitA Healthy Spine your spine (just like stepping on a garden hose) slows down the intelligence and function of your body to adapt to your environment.  This is why two people can be in the same room with a sick person and one “catches” the sickness and the other does not.  It is all about how your body adapts to your environment.  This is also known as the strength of your immune system.

The next thing that you should be aware of (and quite frankly the most important) is that you can not feel the pressure on your spine from a subluxation.  It is physiologically impossible to feel that pressure.  Why?  90% of your nervous system transmits neurological impulses for function and healing and the remaining 10% is for pain.  So you can have significant pressure on your nervous system and not even feel it.  What you will feel is the effect of the pressure.  Let’s say you have pressure on a nerve that goes to a muscle in your lower back.  Now because of that pressure, your brain can not tell the muscles of your lower back to relax so they are in a continual state of contraction (better known as a muscle spasm).  When we restore the bones in your spine to a normal state of proper motion we inadvertently take the pressure off of your nervous system and your brain can tell that muscle in your low back to relax and it does.  Pain goes away.  These are the fundamentals of how chiropractic works.  Also, remember that those same nerves that go to muscles causing pain also go to vital organs that do not have pain fibers.  People that have heart disease, occasionally, are not even aware of it until there is a big sign like a heart attack.  Chiropractic works very similarly.  You can have pressure on a nerve that is resulting in organ dysfunction, and you could not even know about it until a symptom appears.

Power Chiropractic is not only interested in aiding in the pain relief process, we are also interested in preventing any future problems (musculoskeletal or visceral) from occurring.  We have a unique method of correcting the function of the spine to what is normal for you.  Every person is different and should be treated that way.  Our care plans and treatment schedules are uniquely designed to accommodate each person’s individual needs.  Many people have benefited from the process and continue to enhance their overall health and immune system with regular chiropractic maintenance of their corrected spine.  You will too!!!
